Taking Inventory
Having an inventory of the contents of your home is so important to have for so many reasons!
Even more important when moving, so many things can happen and it is important for you to to be able to get to this information and have "proof"
If you have not been keeping an inventory list as you purchuse new items for your home, moving is a great time to put one together. Keep updating your inventory list as your make changes/upgrades :)
There are a lot of websites that have ideas/helps for putting together your home inventory
To be honest I like pen and paper for a lot of stuff, and that includes my home inventory.
As I said earlier there are a TON of sites to help you, I found the NYCM Insurance Company's Home Contents Inventory Worksheet to be my favorite - You will find a link to the Downloadable PDF under the Helpful Websites - Home Inventory Worksheets
The reason that I like these worksheets the most is that they make sure you have all the information about each item that is so important to insurance companies and to claims adjusters Haven for sake you need to file a claim.
When I did my first home inventory, I made it easy on myself, and just went room by room.
I had never thought of doing a home inventory before and starting from the beginning is not fun!
Trying to remember everything was changeling at times, and it solidified to me, the importance of updating it as I get new items, this remembering things stuff is not east (at least for me)
Their is a second part of Home Inventory - Pictures!!!
Take a picture of EVERYTHING!!! I have a few backups of these pictures.
I have a CD with them all on it, I have the printed pictures, and I have a an Album on Facebook that is set to "Only Me" this is not an album that anyone else can see but me, I know that one might seem odd, and you do not need to do it, but it is easy and fast to get to so for me, it worked great.
Once you have your home inventory done - I like to keep a copy in my Moving Binder -
Filed under the 4th Tab.
I also printed out pictures of each of our electronics, on the back of the picture I wrote the Model and Serial Number :)
Congratulations!! You are now ready for the worst case scenario, lets hope you never have to use it, but if you are using movers, there is a HUGE possibility that you might.

Tab #2 / Maps
Again we are going to be using one of the 5 tab divider sets
In this tab it is all about Maps and your New Base :)
I think this was my favorite tab, it was the one that made it real!
Knowing that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel - Yet still sad because I really did enjoy the Base we were at. I learned so much and got to experience so much - I LOVE Exploring a State I had never even visited before :) Sorry I digress
Tab 2 :)
The Very First Page
If you know the Address to your new home or at least the Address to your new Station
Sub Tab #1
The Directions to your new Station
I am going to Assume that you are going to be driving a bit to your next station
Our Directions took quite a few pages
- Before I printed the directions I made sure to add the stops that we would be making along the way. From sites we wanted to visit, Friends and Family we wanted to see along the way to the Hotels we were going to be staying at.
My suggestion is to put these pages back to back (2 pages to each Page Protector)
Sub Tab #2
A Map of your Route
- this map should be from the directions you printed out and have the location of each stop
Sub Tab #3
Hotel Reservation Confirmations
Tabs #4 & #5
Again I did not use these but they were nice to have on Standby ;)

So it is time to move!
We are in the military and moving has become a large part of our life
In my life I can no longer count the number of times I have moved!
Each time I learned so much - a lot of it from my youth. When I got older I made so many mistakes, I always thought I could "pull it off" I never did, so many mistakes! So many BAD mistakes.
I was able to move to be with my husband during his Tech School. I used the military to do the major part of our move and Loved every moment of it. I still made mistakes and when we moved to our fist duty station, I was thrilled with how amazingly wonderful it went. Don't get me wrong there were a few issues, but by far my best move yet. :)
I decided to pass on my Moving Binder to anyone who wanted to put their own together
And honestly the easiest way to do that is to put it on a blog ;)
I hope my system helps you as much as it did me!
On top of Posting my Binder Information
I will be doing Helpful Posts as well
Keep checking back as I continuously add information :)
